Hi there, Singers ...
and those of you who
wanna be ... It had been
my intention to write a
lengthy, detailed
synopsis of The
Fredricks’ Technique--I
call it that not out of
ego, but to highlight
the fact that it is a
total concept of vocal
production, “en
balance,” that bears
little resemblance to
anything you have ever
read or heard in a
lesson ... unless it is
from one of my students.
I suspect everyone at
some time or another has
made a colossal mistake,
that by it’s very nature
and stupidity,
exponentially dwarfs
others you might have
made of the day-to-day
variety. I have made a
few of those in my
lifetime, but I think
the one I detail that
follows, takes the
prize.
After much good natured
nagging by a writer
Linda Palmer, whom I met
one night at a party
years back, I let her
read several chapters of
my book, “Anyone Can
Sing! or (Everything you
always wanted to know
about singing that your
voice teacher couldn’t
tell you!)” She was
extremely complimentary
and urged me to finish
the book, which is, “An
Autobiographical “How to
...” on singing.
Linda is a wonderful
writer:

When I finished the
book, all 334 pages, she
sent me to Chuck
Morrell, a publisher’s
representative who met
with me and pronounced,
“I will put it on the
shelf for $27.95!” I
don’t know where my head
was, at the
time–although one place
springs readily to
mind–and I said, “It
really needs a DVD with
me demonstrating the
techniques in the book
because, in most cases,
lifting words off the
printed page and fully
embracing the physical
actions described can be
challenging.” I naively
held on to my position,
in the interest of the
reader and he said,
“Well, call me if you
change your mind.”
I was very busy at the
time and I really didn’t
think it through ... In
retrospect had he, who
did that kind of thing
for a living, merely
suggested, “Hey ... Why
don’t we just publish
the book ... and you can
offer a DVD later to
satisfy your need for
clarity.” I would have
been published ...eight
years ago.
Well ... as turns out, I
had made a “rough video”
which I have just sat
down and watched for the
first time since then,
all fifty-three minutes
of virtually my whole
technique ... excepting
those things I have been
pleasured to discover in
the ensuing eight years.
It starts and stops ...
and there is even a bit
of humor in
it–modest–but it has all
of the ingredients to
more than adequately
acquaint you with most
of the secrets of my
technique ... and start
you on an entirely new
level of
breathing/support,
focus, how to sing
proper vowels, add cord
and spin to your voice,
etc. ... as well as
giving more than a
modicum of life to the
almost three years of
Tip’s of the Month in
the Archives below this
Tip.
I am going to offer the
tape on my Merchandise
page for $69 that
includes shipping and
handling. What you will
get here ... is
essentially the first
hour of your vocal
training with me ... and
a sense of all the other
little secrets that I
have in my bag of
technique ... for less
than a quarter of the
cost of a lesson. You
will be amazed at how
many new and useful
things there are ... no
matter your particular
level of experience.
Remember ... I teach the
Pro’s as well as the
newbees ... I’m
presently working with
Pat Boone on his new
album and Andy Williams
on his new show opening
in Branson, MO in
September. ;-)
If there is significant
interest, I may make the
book available as well,
as it takes the
technique further and
has has many performance
anecdotes and other gems
about artists with whom
I worked and whose
voices I brought back,
i.e. Beverly Sills,
Placido Domingo, Jack
Klugman, Tony Randall,
Howard Keel, Giorgio
Tozzi, Renata Scotto,
Ann Blyth etc.
