July 2009
(Belatedly)
July started
out with a bang ... the last two weeks of
June and up until now. I had begun working
with a wonderful young man, several months
ago, who had need of support and proper
breathing technique, to allow him to fill
out his vocal potential. He was only able
to work a few weeks before departing for
places East ... and to the Far East as
well. East entailed two speeches at the
United Nations and a few in Washington,
DC. Then off to Pakistan, India, Dubai,
etc. for about four months.
Imran Raza is not only a Pakistani-Indian
Rock Star, he is the Producer, Director
and Composer of an incredible documentary,
The Karachi Kids, to be aired later this
fall. You won’t believe this brain-washing
at its worst!!!
Imran
returned to L. A. and our work, in June
and we have added more than a full octave
to his voice as well as more than doubling
its size and adding to its quality. We
worked specifically on three of the twelve
songs, he has written for his album, A
Seat at the Table, which he is releasing
with his documentary. The title, A Seat at
the Table, symbolizes tolerance, i.e.
there is a place at the table for
everyone.
Imran has
assembled an international cast of artists
and instrumentalists, who are joining him
in this endeavor. He has just completed
recording Love Can Reign, which brings
together the talents of Slash (Gun’s and
Roses etc), Lanny Cordola (House of Lords,
etc), Matt Sorum, Faraz Anwar, Rahat Ali
Khan, Faisi and a myriad of others. For
his Co-producer and sound-engineer, Imran
has been fortunate in obtaining the
talented, three Grammy winning artist,
Anton Pukshansky.
Working with
Rappers and Rock Stars is a gas ...
because they really don’t expect much!
.Then, when they realize what they have
had all of that time and not used it …
they are mostly euphoric (maybe even
euphive-ic).
They have discovered a voice with a really
good sound ... that can be heard in
theater with no microphone (not that they
would ever be caught without one!) And,
most importantly ... they can sing for
hours without their respective throats
hurting!!! It’s called “technique!’ Ya
know … it don’t have to be operatic to be
good ...
